Universal Paper went all out for a carnival-themed birthday held on the 10th of February this year. At 73, we’re only getting started with the UP family growing and the birthday celebrations expanding to match.
The event was held in the parking area adjacent to Sher Park this year with a balloon arch to greet all who entered in the shade of buttered popcorn, a sign of things to come. The games, food stalls and eating area were neatly tucked under cover which proved handy as it was the rain and not the sun we had to contend with this year.
The games were popular with names such as ‘toilet paper jenga’ and ‘buffalo toilet toss’ the staff got creative in creating fun ones to play all while using our core products, pardon the pun. An extra feature this year was a dedicated booth for carnival-style prizes to collect for winners of the various games including tiny Rubik’s cubes and other colourful goodies.
The employees were spoilt for choice in the lunch department with the option to choose a burger, chicken wrap, corn dog or boerewors roll as a main with a side of chip ‘n dip if you so desired – cold drinks and water provided refreshment. A giant, pink inflatable stand made sure you knew where to collect your popcorn and candy floss – the long lines made it clear UP was in a carnival mood, the in-house DJ didn’t do badly in the grooves department either.
A raffle draw was held with a few lucky employees walking away with prizes that included a microwave and an air fryer to name a few. The sun came out for all of 20 minutes for the cutting of the company-sized cake by the directors, a buttercream delight mind you, before returning to stormy weather to round off a wet and muddy – though incredibly entertaining – 73rd birthday.
We’d like to thank the incredible event squad for arranging this event, all the helpful hands assisting in all shapes and forms, the directors and the entire Universal Paper staff for showing ‘UP’ and making this a birthday to remember. Roll on 74!
