A General Meeting was held on the 4th of September at UPP. During the meeting, Managing Director, Barry Sher outlined some of the challenges and achievements being experienced within the company. He said, “although there have been challenges and improved efficiencies, the net result has been positive which makes me feel very confident about the long term future of the companies.”
Another key point of the meeting was to highlight that an employee forum has been formed to establish a communication platform within the companies. The forum members will have meetings to discuss any issues within the companies and to come up with ways to overcome these.
There was a competition held for the design of the logo for the employee forum. Simon Nthite, who is the chairperson, and Peter Teffo, who is the vice-chairperson, announced the winners and handed out the prizes. 1st and 2nd Prize went to Christopher Mokhine and 3rd prize was a tie between Theresa Kganyago and Jonathan Sher.
The members of the employee forum will receive T-shirts with the winning logo printed on them.
Barry handed over to David Sher who spoke about the Company Values that are held in high regard at UPP. He gave the employees the opportunity to come up to the front to speak about how they have seen the various values at work within the company.
David Sher spoke about how “our aim as a company is to live our values so to enable us to achieve the intended targets we set as individuals and as a collective team.” He added that “we aim to realise these values by promoting the use of them in our everyday activities and together moving forward as a leader in the field of tissue manufacturing and converting. We have simply labelled and described values that have been entrenched in the company for many years.”
David Sher continued to say that at UPP “we have a unique and special culture as we are more a family than a business and this has led to the long term success and survival of the company. It’s time we acknowledge this culture and celebrate it as it truly is our competitive advantage.”
It was a successful meeting with good participation from the speakers who were encouraged to share how they have seen the values of Integrity, Commitment, Empowerment and Excellence being displayed by the staff in the company. Those who volunteered to come up received a small voucher for their efforts.
